Wallenstein Festival Memmingen 2026

Wallenstein Festival Memmingen 2026

26 July – 2 August 2026 · every four years · 10 km from Tannheim

The Wallenstein Festival is held every four years in Memmingen’s old town — in 2026 from 26 July to 2 August. Over 4,500 townspeople in historical costume re-enact the occupation of Memmingen by Wallenstein’s troops during the Thirty Years’ War (1630): parades, theatre scenes, a historical market, camp life and concerts across the city. Ferienwohnung Andrea sits 10 kilometres from the old town — a practical base for the festival week.

Eight days of the Thirty Years' War in the old town

The Wallenstein Festival is one of Europe’s largest historical events. Around 4,500 townspeople stage Wallenstein’s entry into Memmingen in 1630 — eight days with a military camp, craftspeople, sutlers and theatre troops throughout the old town.

The festival received the Bavarian Heimatpreis in 2018. After 2026, the next edition is not until 2030. Arrive by car, on foot from the old-town car park, or by bus from Memmingen main station.

The festival prologue: Memminger Fischertag

Fischertag from 8 am

Around 1,200 men fish the town stream with dip nets. Whoever catches the heaviest trout becomes ‘Fischerkönig’. A medieval tradition of cleaning out the town stream.

Festival weekend

Fischertag and the Wallenstein opening fall together — a good reason to arrive Friday. Supporting programme across the whole inner city.

A rare double bill

The Fischertag + Wallenstein opening combination only happens in 2026. Early booking recommended — the festival week is in heavy demand.
